I am not dead, contrary to my extremely long absence from the website. For a very long time, I’ve allowed the site to sit stagnant, without even a hint of improvement or updating. The reason is pretty simple: I haven’t had the time. Every so often, I would crack open the files on my computer with the intent of fixing things up and adding to it. But every time I ran into the same problems. There was simply too much to do in what few hours I had. I got lost in what I should tackle first and what could wait. I’ve never been good at that sort of thing. I would fix one thing, only to find it was related to something else, and I would go to work on that and find something else and… sigh. In the end, I would have a bunch of half worked pages and nothing completed.
I’ve been on the lookout for some way to make updating easier and quicker, without having to give up doing my own work with the design. This led to a lot of frustration on my part. I tried to make templates, but even then changing elements took time. While I’ve been able to keep up with the changes in html/xhtml, I just could never wrap my head around php. I wanted to very much. I knew it would allow me to make a site that would be very easy to update once it was implemented. But it kept eluding me D: Finally, I came to the realization that something had to give. Either I would need to devote quite a lot of time trying to beat php into my brain and let the site continue to collect dust, or I could find some premade solution and let go of need to control every bit of coding.
Well, it’s obvious which I went with. After poking at several solutions on and off over the years, I decided to go with WordPress. I’ve used it for a role-played centered blog, so I was familiar with it and liked pretty well how it works. It’s not exactly how I’d like, but it’ll do what I need by allowing me to update without getting bogged down in doing coding work. And WordPress is fairly easy to mess with in terms of style changes. There are many nice themes and rearranging things don’t take as long.
For now, I believe stories and poetry will be entered into posts rather than pages. This will cut down on the already growing sidebar. After all, each individual work doesn’t need a listing on there. I will link the posts to the relevant pages. The posts will probably trickle in as I can get to them.
It seems the Namek Shrine isn’t working. I visited it not too long ago, so I think I might’ve broken it when I converted the main site. Ah well. It will get it’s own WordPress treatment in time. This may be just what it needs to get a new breath of life as well!
